Commercial

We enjoy designing special housing schemes in sensitive locations, such as Conservation Areas, or close to listed buildings. Other commercial projects include shops and restaurants in historic town centres.

Stoke College Housing

As part of a comprehensive condition survey and conservation strategy for the school, a need for enabling development was identified. This took the form of six houses, located in an area of land that had the least potential for yielding important archaeology and where a number of disused estate sheds were located.
The houses were designed as Estate cottages and take their architectural cues from the village housing in the immediate vicinity of the college and the college buildings. Each is identical and they are spaced in a gentle curve to enhance the views towards St John the Baptist church. Although our involvement ended at planning stage, we were pleased to find that Hopkins Homes had taken our design and with a few adjustments have built out this attractive scheme.

Curson Lodge, St Nicholas Street, Ipswich

Curson Lodge, 45-47 St Nicholas Street, Ipswich This Grade II* listed 16th century former inn in the heart of Ipswich town was on the Buildings at Risk register because the main chimney stack was unstable.
The Ipswich Building Preservation Trust appointed Hilary Brightman in 2004 to prepare a feasibility study on the repair and restoration of the building, and work started in earnest late in 2006. The project was given an Award of Distinction from the Ipswich Society in November 2007.

The works were carried out by MD Mills (Building Contractors) Ltd. www.mdmills.co.uk
